Katun Rebuilding Instructions
for the Canon NP-4050/4080/6241 and C400D Drum Unit/Cartridges

1. Slide the primary corona assembly (A) out of the cartridge. Remove the shield plate and corona block covers. Remove the used primary corona wire. Install
the new, precut, 1.5 µ gold plated corona wire provided in the Katun rebuilding kit. Clean, adjust, and reassemble the primary corona assembly.
2. Remove the toner catcher (B) by removing a single screw.
3. To remove the used OPC drum (C):
• Remove the drum unit handle (D) by removing three screws which hold the handle to the cartridge frame assembly (E).
• To remove the drum shaft retainers [brass (F) and plastic (G) fittings], detach the waste toner feedscrew pipe (H) and waste toner feedscrew. Remove the
four screws which secure the drum shaft retainers.
• Carefully pull the drum shaft retainers out of the drum flange to release the OPC drum.
• Retain the drum shaft bushing (J) found on the gear end of the used drum for installation with the new Katun OPC drum.
4. Dispose of the used drum and waste toner by using the plastic bag provided with the Katun OPC/blade kit.
5. Remove the three screws securing the drum cleaning blade to the drum cleaning assembly (K). Remove the used drum cleaning blade.
6. Install the new Katun drum cleaning blade provided in the Katun rebuilding kit and secure it with the three screws removed in step 5.
NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH THE BLADE SURFACE WHEN REPLACING THE BLADE.
7. To replace the used OPC drum with the new Katun OPC drum:
• Install the drum shaft bushing (removed in step 3) into the cartridge frame.
• Apply Kynar
®
powder to the drum surface and insert the new drum into the bushing, gear end first, noting the alignment of the drum gear and cleaning
roller gear.
• Reinstall the drum shaft retainers and secure them with the four screws removed in step 3. Reattach the waste toner feedscrew and waste toner fee d
screw pipe.
• Manually rotate the OPC drum a minimum of one revolution to properly distribute powder and minimize the possibility of “blade flip”.
• Reinstall the drum unit handle with three screws.
8. Reinstall the toner catcher and secure it with the single screw removed in step 2.
9. Reinstall the primary corona assembly.
10.Attach the copy count label (from the drum box) to the drum unit handle. Record the date of replacement and the counter reading on this label.
